DIRECT Project Update: Tây Ninh - Việt Nam- March 6, 2019

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE LAST QUARTER OF THE Disability Rights Enforcement, Coordination and Therapies Project (DIRECT).

Provide of rehabilitation therapies and assistive devices:
A total of 855 persons with disabilities, of this 122 are new and 722 are old beneficiaries, received direct assistance from the project during this period. The result accounted for 71% of the quarter target. 165 persons among the beneficiaries received assistive devices (123 from Tay Ninh and 42 from Binh Phuoc) purchased by DIRECT.
Construction/home modification support:
26 persons Binh Phuoc received supports for construction / modification of new toilets and accessibility features, and a rehab unit in Phuoc Long received got a new therapy area and a WC expanded/upgraded. In Tay Ninh, the project team has completed site assessment for 40 potential beneficiaries.
Supports to people affected by Agent Orange (AO):
Technical teams from VNAH and Viet Health jointly conducted a need assessment for 19 children with disabilities who are members of the Vietnamese Association of Victims of Agent Orange center (VAVA) in Tay Ninh province. Preliminary assessments showed that these children here need special education, occupational therapy (OT) or a combination of OT and speech therapy services. In coming quarters, the project will provide support to these children based on the assessment results.
