USAID Provides Support for Assistive Devices for Persons with Disabilities: Many of Dong Nai province’s 154,000 persons with disabilities need assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, crutches, walking canes and prosthetics, to enable their daily activities and independent living. However, few of its health facilities have the capacity to produce assistive devices specifically designed to meet individual needs of persons with disabilities. On March 5, USAID’s Disability Rights Enforcement, Coordination, and Therapies activity and Dong Nai General Hospital inaugurated a new workshop for the production of assistive devices for persons with disabilities. USAID provided equipment and supported training for technicians of the workshop, designed to serve persons with disabilities in all of Dong Nai province. So what? USAID strengthens local rehabilitation services and improves support to persons with disabilities, increasing their independent living and integration into society.
